We are excited to announce we finally have dashboards in Canua. To begin, we have focused on giving you high level visualizations of your financial situation.
To start, the dashboard shows your Net Worth (assets minus liabilities), which is a good baseline place to start to understand how financially sound you are.
We look forward to hearing your feedback about this feature and continuing to develop it based on your needs.
The second set of visualizations that we’ve released is an overview of your investments. The investments dashboard breaks down all your investments across public and private equities, retirement accounts, cryptocurrencies, and other assets to help you answer questions like:
In the coming months, we'll be adding customizable charts so you can explore your data more deeply, but we are already very proud of this first iteration and look forward to hearing your feedback.
Understanding what you spend your money on is a prerequisite of reaching financial independence. At Canua, while we're not big fans of budgeting, the idea of having this understanding means that you need to categorize your transactions in one way or another.
Until now, you could only set or change categories for transactions that were manually imported via CSV. But with this new release, we enabled this same ability for ALL transactions in the platform, regardless of where they came from. In the near future, we will also allow you to create and manage your own custom categories and automate application of transaction categories based on your own custom rules.
Last but not least, we recently introduced a simple but powerful feature: a weekly summary of your finances delivered right to your inbox! This convenient email provides you with a concise breakdown of your financial activity, allowing you to stay well-informed about your spending habits and overall financial situation.

Canua started out with just a few options to sync your accounts. Since then, we’ve added many other ways to connect and add data. And throughout, we have learned a lot from you about what works and what doesn’t.
Getting your data into Canua is the most important step for new users. We can’t do anything for our customers until they have connected and synced their data. So, naturally, we want to make it much easier to find the right category of thing that you’re trying to add to Canua and much more intuitive to add that thing to the product.
We have completely redesigned our data connection flow; making it more comprehensible and flexible so that you can easily add all the accounts, assets, and liabilities you have.
Yes, we built a command-K search bar. 😅 This pattern is flexible and allows you to simply search for what you want to add in your own words and we’ll get you there as quickly as we can. The search bar supports fuzzy search (so that misspellings are handled gracefully) and allows us to map multiple values to a given result. E.g. searching for “SAFE” or “Convertible note” or “Angel investment” returns the right sub-category to be added.
⌘-K is our first keyboard shortcut. In the future we’ll be adding many more.
Manual editing of offline assets has never been easier. You can now update the amount, current value or other properties on any asset type with just one click!
Your finances are as unique as you are; complex and full of nuance. Along with the new connection flow we’ve added many new asset and liability types so that you can track your entire financial life in Canua.
Whether it’s manually tracking crypto, adding the options that you got at the startup you work for, or adding real estate, Canua has you covered. This is just the beginning. Right now we track many of the details required to understand potential tax liabilities, vesting schedules, etc. In the future we’ll put that data to good use.
These days, more and more of us have finances that stretch beyond just our own personal situation. Activities like your side hustles, consulting work, trusts, and investment vehicles or clubs each need to keep their finances separate from your personal situation. You can now create as many workspaces as you’d like in Canua to track the money for each of these use cases and more.

Your financial life is more than the sums in your accounts. Whether you need to prove your income, or your address, or to maximize deductions at tax time, documents are actually an important piece of the puzzle.
We believe that this sort of unstructured data is just as important as the structured balance and transaction data that Personal Finance tools have historically focused on. This is why we’ve launched a way to track and organize all of your financial docs in one place. In this first version you can upload docs, associate them to specific accounts, assets, or liabilities, and tag them. In future versions, we’ll get much smarter about helping you understand the content of your docs automatically using AI.
Like all data in Canua, we take great care to store your docs securely and fully encrypted.

We live in a world of many currencies; and this is especially true as cryptocurrencies become more a part of everyday life. These currencies change value in relation to one another (some much more than others) and this often can leave you with a less than clear picture of your finances. This month, we launched the ability to set a default currency for your workspace. This ensures that all values are displayed in the currency of your choice, making it easy to keep track of your net worth, diversification, currency risks, tax liabilities, etc.
One nice touch is the ability to see your past transactions converted at the exchange rate on the day of the transaction. This helps you understand how recurring transactions are changing with relation to your base currency.
If you’re not a “US Person” with foreign accounts, you can say a little prayer for those of us that are and then jump to the next section. On the other hand; if you are, you know that filing an FBAR is a cumbersome and time-consuming process, especially if you have multiple foreign bank accounts. Now you can automatically file your FBAR in just a few minutes with Canua.
Just connect your foreign accounts and run through a 4 question workflow. The best part is, as long as you keep your accounts connected, we’ll file your FBAR every year from now until the end of time. Automation FTW! Learn more about the details in our help center article.
Psst. If you’re not sure if you need to file an FBAR, you should figure that out ASAP. It's due Oct 17th this year.
Nothing major but certainly worth an honorable mention. You’ll notice that our transactions page is now a bit easier on the eyes. Each transaction also now shows more contextual information under the View More link. Depending on the type of the transaction we will show different information such as prices, transaction fees, or Etherscan links.

We’re particularly excited about this one. While Canua already connects to over 17,000+ banks and brokerages worldwide, there are still many institutions that we don’t cover. In addition, many of the institutions that we do cover only return partial historical data via their APIs. CSV bank statement imports allow you to import all your transactions, whether they’re historical transactions for an account you’ve already connected or for accounts that we don’t yet support syncing with via API.
The import process is super flexible, allowing you to customize what gets imported and how. Better yet, when you import data for a given institution, we’ll remember all the mappings and settings so that the next time you import transactions for the same institution you’ll only have to upload the file and confirm everything looks good.
Finding your financial calm starts with having a complete and unified view of all your finances. CSV imports represents a huge leap forward in the breadth and ease with which you can get your data into Canua.
We want the Canua experience to feel like magic, which means we want you to have quick and easy access to the information you need. The new filters on the transactions page will help you with that.
These filters include options for transaction types (received/sent), date ranges, currency type (fiat/crypto), account and others. You may find these useful when looking for a transaction or when you’re checking a list of transactions of a certain type or account.
We have built custom account names so that, after connecting multiple accounts, from multiple financial institutions, these are still clear and easy to understand when displayed on your list.

Canua supports syncing with thousands of bank accounts and investment accounts via API, however, it may be the case that you have other assets that you would also like to add to your portfolio. In many cases these may represent the largest part of your assets.
Our new manual assets feature is a very simple way to add those. You can add real estate, vehicles, and many other types of assets such as startup equity, angel investments, domains, and precious metals. These will be accounted for in your total net worth. This brings you one step closer to having Canua represent the single source of truth for your finances!
Personal finance doesn't always have to be lonely.
Whether you manage your finances with a partner or want to give your accountant access to your data, it can be tricky to bring together multiple bank accounts, assets, documents, and everything else required to stay organized. It’s now possible to invite other people to your Canua workspace and given them access to your data in just a few moments. This is just the beginning of multi-player Canua. In the future we'll release more granular permissions and better controls for how other people can access your data.
We've built a slide out side panel for transactions, institutions, and individual accounts that gives you the nitty gritty details of each. You can review categories, copy account details, understand transaction fees better and explore crypto addresses.
Sometimes you want to report a bug, send us a feature request, or just show Canua off to your friends. We’ve added a simple way to mask all your personal data with the simple flick of a switch.
